Continental Flooring’s Heartfelt Holiday Gift: Empowering Phoenix Youth Through Homeless Youth Connection (HYC)

As the new year begins, Continental Flooring is proud to share our recent holiday philanthropic project. Throughout the holiday season, our dedicated team, led by project coordinator, Nichole Bullock, came together to spread warmth, joy, and hope to the children in need in the Phoenix area.

Our efforts were directed towards supporting the Homeless Youth Connection (HYC), an organization that provides crucial assistance to young individuals aged 13 to 21 who are experiencing homelessness. HYC’s mission is to help these young souls navigate the numerous obstacles that can hinder their education and threaten their future stability and self-sufficiency.

HYC plays a pivotal role in ensuring that these young individuals can graduate from high school, despite the challenges they face. Some of the essential services provided by HYC include:

Provision of Essential Needs: HYC ensures that these youths have access to basic necessities such as clothing, hygiene products, vital documents, health insurance enrollment, and medical care, including co-pays, vision, dental, and prescriptions. Additionally, they offer valuable counseling services.

Educational Resources: HYC assists with educational resources, covering class and club fees, school supplies, including laptops, and access to Wi-Fi, ensuring that these youths have the tools they need to excel academically.

Housing Resources: The organization offers housing resources through its Host Family Housing program and Transitional Living Program, providing safe and stable living arrangements for those in need.

Employment Resources: HYC also helps these youths with employment resources and preparation, both during and after high school graduation, setting them on a path towards self-sufficiency.

In addition to addressing immediate needs, HYC focuses on empowering these young individuals with life skills and adult preparedness. Their programs include:

Teaching Life Skills: This involves imparting essential skills such as banking and financial literacy, independent shopping, and accessing public transportation, which are crucial for independent living.

Decision-Making Skills: HYC helps develop decision-making skills, enabling the youths to make informed choices about their future.

Employment Skills: The organization assists in building skills for job interviews and securing employment, fostering independence and self-reliance.

Guidance for Higher Education: HYC offers guidance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) and post-secondary education scholarship opportunities, helping these youths identify their goals and design plans for their future.

We are immensely proud of the Continental team’s dedication and efforts in making a positive impact on the lives of these young individuals. As we step into the new year, we remain committed to continuing our efforts to support and uplift our local communities.
