Continental Flooring and Armstrong – Keeping it Green with Sustainable Floor and Ceiling Options

Reduce; Reuse; Recycle. The trending theme of becoming eco-friendly and conserving materials is becoming a staple among the flooring industry. Sustainability is based on a simple principle: everything we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Since 1979, Continental’s family owned and operated company has been serving as your nation’s government flooring and ceiling specialist with multiple manufactures that are keeping it green. Our elite programs offer an awareness in an ecological balance. Whether your renovation project needs recycled material, LEED credits or a take back recycling program, sustainable floor options, through easy sourcing via contracts like GSA Schedules, cooperative contracts and teaming agreements you can find several eco-friendly benefits and green programs.

The Armstrong® World Industries’ Floor Recycling Program is available nationwide; it reclaims Armstrong® and competitor LVT, VCT and other qualifying products with or without adhesive. Since the 2009 implementation, floorings like Natural Creations Arbor Art™, Raffia™, Standard Excelon™ and many others have been recycled (over 6 million pounds of post-consumer flooring) into new Armstrong® flooring diverting 3,000 tons of post-consumer material from landfills. Disposed materials are transformed through the manufacturing of newer products like Striations and Migrations Bio-Based Tile™ and the new LinoArt™ collection. These floors don’t only look like nature, they keep nature in mind. Wood and stone inspired visuals of Striations™ and Migrations™ are finished with BioStride polymer—made from rapidly renewable U.S.-grown plant materials. Additionally, the new LinoArt™ sheet and tile linoleum with 35% pre-consumer and 36% rapidly renewable content generates a longer life cycle lessening our ecological “floor” print.
