Armstrong Keeps it Green with BioBased Tile

For more than a century, Armstrong has been the leading name in the flooring industry. Cutting edge and forward thinking, they know the importance of green product choices.  When Armstrong introduced their new BioBased Tile (BBT) to the market a couple of years ago, they knew they had something unique.  This new category of tile is produced with rapidly renewable resources while maintaining high performance standards. It’s safe to say Armstrong raised the bar on sustainable flooring with BBT.

“They removed the Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and replaced it with a natural product called BioStride,” says Mike Draklich, Commercial Product Specialist for Triwest Distribution in Phoenix. “BioStride is a polymer made with corn and Armstrong is dedicated to reducing their fossil fuel and petroleum footprint.  They really walk the walk when it comes to lowering their environmental impact,” Draklich confirms.

The “Migrations” line offers an alternative to vinyl composition tile.  It has all the same long product life qualities, but with more density, 5 times greater resistance to impact and 2.5 greater resistance to cracking from uneven subfloor. This BBT also boast twice the indent resistance. Since BBT comes in an identical gauge to Armstrong VCT products, it’s easy to accommodate spaces that had existing tile in place. Migrations is available in standard 12 x12 size with 28 neutrals and colors.

More closely aligned with VCT in terms of price, the “Striations” line showcases BBT in a new size with stylish visuals.  Winner of the 2012 GreenStep Product Award, winner of Architect’s Choice and Best in Show at the 2012 Symposium Distinction Awards, and the Bronze winner at 2012 International Design Awards, Striations has proven itself to be one of the best green tile products on the market. Breaking the barrier of standard sized 12 x12 VCT, Striations tiles come in a creative 12 x 24 format.  This is line is available in 18 patterns, pastels and colors.
Armstrong is always striving to research new environmentally conscious materials to create more sustainable flooring products.
